The aerial images above show the World Trade Center plaza and surrounding area before and after the attack of September 11. The left image was collected in July, 2000, the right image was collected on September 15, portions of this image are obscured by smoke.

These images were collected using a digital camera system and can resolve objects 0.5 foot in diameter and larger. These images have been converted to map form (horizontally accurate to plus or minus three feet) through a computerized process of image projection called digital orthophotography. The resulting image shows all ground objects in their correct geographic position enabling planners and rescue workers to obtain precise measurements of distances between objects as well as accurate computations of area. These maps show current conditions at the site and provide planners with tools to direct equipment and personnel.
